{"id":1121,"date":"2015-05-29T08:24:49","date_gmt":"2015-05-29T12:24:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/transcourt.com\/?p=1121"},"modified":"2025-05-14T13:33:34","modified_gmt":"2025-05-14T17:33:34","slug":"automated-highway-from-canada-to-mexico-self-driving-trucks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/transcourt.com\/fr\/2015\/05\/automated-highway-from-canada-to-mexico-self-driving-trucks\/","title":{"rendered":"Automated highway from Canada to Mexico &#8211; self-driving trucks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"selectionShareable\">Trucks hauling cargo from Canada through the United States to Mexico and back navigate border crossings without the need for passports, visas or even a driver to steer them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\"><a href=\"https:\/\/transcourt.com\/fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Route83-MexicoUSCanada.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1122\" src=\"https:\/\/transcourt.com\/fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Route83-MexicoUSCanada.jpg\" alt=\"Route83-MexicoUSCanada\" width=\"641\" height=\"256\" srcset=\"https:\/\/transcourt.com\/fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Route83-MexicoUSCanada.jpg 641w, https:\/\/transcourt.com\/fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Route83-MexicoUSCanada-300x120.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 641px) 100vw, 641px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">It\u2019s an idea that\u2019s not too far-fetched, says a group that met in North Dakota last week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">Marlo Anderson with the Central North American Trade Corridor Association says members are working to turn the idea into reality.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">The plan is for an autonomous vehicle corridor along Route 83, which runs north-south through Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and North Dakota. The road then continues into Manitoba.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">A study into the feasibility of the project is being planned and Anderson says the group wants to travel to communities along the corridor to gain support.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">\u201cOne of the challenges we have here in North Dakota is that we have a lot of energy production going on right now, but not enough pipelines to carry the oil from North Dakota to its destination point,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">That means other commodities, such as grain, need to fight for space on trains. A separate corridor could relieve that pressure, he said. Tank Trailers could easily ride on the corridor making safety easier and simpler for transporting goods.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">\u201cWe\u2019re hopeful that, working with the Canadian government, the Mexican government, the United States, we can create some kind of automated way &#8230; (to) streamline that process of border crossings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">The technology, though experimental, already exists in driverless vehicles that use tools such as GPS to navigate roads, Anderson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">Unmanned vehicles are more efficient, he suggested.<\/p>\n<p class=\"selectionShareable\">\u201cThey don\u2019t need to worry about a driver having too many hours in a day or in a week.
